5 Psychological Hooks to Open Your Sales Page with a Bang!

How splendid would it be to have a sales page so completely irresistible that there is no way your ideal buyer can frolic in and out of your page without coughing up some moula or at the very least her email!

But

That can only happen if the page opens with something that stops her in her tracks and ignites a burning, unshakeable desire to know more.

That makes her read the next line and the next line and next.

You need to hook her at the start..

Because she will only buy if she stays long enough to read how awesome your stuff is!

Right?

So we can all agree that it is the start of the page that determines whether she will be willing to take this journey down your sales page.

When you start strong, you have a much higher chance of her sticking around AND being sold to!

Here are 5 psychological hooks that will pull her in, hook, line and sinker!

 1. Show them What they Can Be:

Human beings are selfish and they are never satisfied with status quo. Anything that offers them a future that is better than their present will always be intriguing, exciting and worth a gander. Look at some examples below:

  • Be the most influential person in your office!

  • Be the Mom who always buys organic!

  • You can be paid to travel 5 countries in 3 months, Are you in?

  • What if you could be a master interviewee and get any job you want…all with a 3 week program.

 2. Show Them What They Get:

This is a more feature centric approach where you start with the various features of your offering rather than benefits. This works when what you are offering has certain features that are so amazing, so mind-blowing and unique that it’s virtually unignorable. If you have features similar to other competitors, I won’t recommend using this approach. Some examples:

  • Create your own original logo in minutes for $5!

  • Finally a Machine that washes, dries AND folds Laundry!

  • First Ever Live Negotiation Training so you never have to Haggle, Beg or Plead!

 3. Hit Where it Hurts the Most

The fear mongering approach also works exceptionally well as an attention grabber. But, you need to know your potential buyers really really well for this to work; their fears, their insecurities, their struggles everything. See this in action below:

  • Gained another 5 pounds despite sticking to the diet? This is for you!

  • Passed up on another pay raise? This will change it forever!

  • Are you tired of being tired all the time?

4. Bark a Command:

Sometimes the best approach is to take a forceful stance. Commands allow you to simultaneously be direct, relay a benefit, and take an authoritative position. It’s not conversational or friendly, it’s dictatorial and more similar to direct response marketing style sales letters. But it’s definitely worth giving it a shot if you’re offering has a sense of urgency or solves a problem that can’t wait.

  • Stop wasting money on Scams, Enough is enough!

  • Do not spend one more Day at That Shitty Job!

  • Stop hiding behind frumpy swim suits. Join us and rock that Bikini in 21 days!

5. Share a Love Note:

A testimonial headline can do wonders for your sale space, it not only provides social proof but also gets people to stop and read. Everyone wants to read what other people have to say and anything in quotation marks is especially noticeable because it signals human interaction:

  • “Your program has changed my life…and the life of my children”

  • “This diet program worked for me despite my thyroid issues. It can work for you, too!”

  • “It’s the first book on copywriting that actually made sense to me.”

Now hurry up stop reading this and go give your sales page some psychology lovin’.

    Awesome post.

Just finished a test where I reflected my prospect’s fear in my headline and lead.

    That 2xed my conversions!

I’m now going to reflect that fear in my CTA copy and see how it works.

    Thanks for the great insights.

    Make your days great.

    Bark a command – I love it !

I use a lot of the ‘show them who they can be’ type hooks but I’ll start experimenting with the others. Such great ideas here. Sharing a love note/testimonial is an awesome positive way to start a sales page.

Hi, I started my website with the intention of attracting more students last year in July. I paid for online teaching portal as well. So far only 100 students and 200 teachers are registered. No one took any online classes yet. How to get more traffic to my site? What is lacking in my site?
    Thanks

      Hi Anas

Have you tried using these techniques on your sales page? Also how are you driving traffic to your website and what are you offering them to sign up?
